Whether you’re looking for a delicious cooked breakfast, lunch at one of the vineyards or a café, fine dining or just a takeaway, we are certainly spoilt for choice in Martinborough and have something to suit every budget.
There are cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from right in the heart of the Village… Neighbourhood, Nara, Martinborough Brewery, Medici Café,Tonic, Mesita, Knucklebone, The Village Café, Kitchener’s, Crouching Tiger, Cool Change, Union Square at the Martinborough Hotel, Little Square Pizza, Siam Kitchen, E10 at the Pukemanu and The Bach. A bit further up Jellicoe Street you have Circus. Each have their own little niche in the local market catering for all appetites and meal choices. Opening hours and days depend on each establishment so it pays to have a look around and check. Kitchener’s are open weekdays only from the wee hours looking after our local industry workers so you can get a coffee or the best bacon and egg buttie from round 4am, perfect for an early morning start. Just a short drive or cycle away on Huangarua and Puruatanga Roads (the Wine Road) you have all the vineyards to choose from… the Vineyard Café at Margrain is open from about 8am through to late afternoon, Tirohana Estate offers lunches and dinners, Poppies does an amazing luncheon platter, Luna has a lunch menu and next door is Moy Hall with fabulous tasting plates. New to town is the Runholder restaurant at Te Kairanga wines. Other Vineyards definitely worth a visit are Muirlea Rise on Princess Street and Palliser Estate. Coney Wines (Dry River Road) is about 10 minutes drive from the town centre and they have lovely wines and a consistently good restaurant (3 Little Words). Most of the vineyards along that stretch of road offer tastings of their wines (some by appointment only), a platter or both. |
Around the corner on Todds Road you have Colombo offering tasting plates and woodfired pizzas. There’s even a Gin house where you can sample the locally distilled Reid & Reid gins and a bite to eat. On the other side of the Square and just a wee bit further out of town you have Coney Wines, who offer a delicious lunch menu and wines in beautiful surroundings. On the way out of town towards Featherston or Greytown there are more options including is Palliser Estate and Nga Waka.
We have a choice of takeaways for pick up including authentic pizza, fish and chips, Thai, Chinese and also food trucks located around the Square. Colombo offer a delivery pizza service in the weekends. And if you want to dine in we can certainly recommend some fabulous local caterers to whip up a special meal. A number of the bars have tasty menus on offer too … Cool Change and Union Square both have both great bar meals and a dinner menu. Martinborough Brewery offers the classic Southland cheese rolls and saveloys to accompany your craft beer or glass of wine and Mesita offers tasting plates with a South America twist. Wherever you go you will find friendly and knowledgeable staff and a fantastic range of local wines. If it's just coffee you are wanting, you have quite a few options available with great counter food to choose from including amazing muffins, scones, club sandwiches and range of smoothies …. The hardest thing about dining in our little Village is choosing where to go! |
